For the 2023 tax year, the standard deduction is getting bumped up to: $13,850 for single filers and married couples filing separately, $20,800 for heads of households and $27,700 for married couples filing jointly.

The American Rescue Plan increased the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 per child to $3,000 per child for children over the age of six and from $2,000 to $3,600 for children under the age of six, and raised the age limit from 16 to 17.

Important Tax Due Dates and Deadlines

2023 Tax Due Dates

                                                                                                  

Estimated tax payments are due as follows:

January 1 to March 31 – April 15
April 1 to May 31 – June 15
June 1 to August 31 - September 15
September 1 to December 31 – January 15 of the following year.

IRS Begins Accepting and Processing 2023 Tax Returns (Form 1040).

January 31

2023 Forms 1099 NEC are due on January 31, 2024.

15th of every month
Generally, employers who make federal tax deposits on a monthly basis must pay by the employment taxes due by 15th of every month (for the previous month), unless the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday. In that case, the due date is usually moved to the following Monday.

First Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) by Individuals Who Turned 72 in 2023.
